Stockholme Syndrome
This was a remote piece recorded (heavily influenced by my daughters choosing) for the virtual summer concert at school during lockdown, backed by 6th form pianist Molly Jervis.
Upbattle 2015
Whilst my sense of direction or lack thereof is as infamous as it is ironic, it’s nonetheless taken me 7 years to get round to editing this 4 minutes of humiliation. I entered the Upbattle race in Aviemore in 2015 and was doing quite well until I lost my way on the descent. It was an up/down splitboard race, which I nipple cammed, and it includes the embarrassing turns and exchanges involved when you get lost in a race which no one seems to know is occurring. If you’re on a T-Bar in the middle of a race descent, you know you’ve gone wrong somewhere.
Don’t You Want Me - QEGS RE Department
Our department’s entry into the 2020 Children in Need lip sync competition.
Let it flow - Skiddaw and Ullock Pike
Probably my favourite route in the Lake District taken whilst still coming to grips with the copter.
24 hours with a drone
This is what we got on the first day with the drone. It mainly chased Stan but also gave us an inkling of what it was capable of had I known how to operate it.
The Finding
In a response to the many TikTok videos my daughters were posting, I decided to rise to the challenge and took some lip sync footage whilst on an afternoon bike ride. It was taken during the first days of lockdown, which was lucky as the fells were empty and there was no one to witness it, and whilst biking in lockdown may seem irresponsible now, in those heady days I was drunk on an empty Lake District and as far as I was concerned, as socially distanced as it was possible to be. Nerds may wish to know it was a route over Outerside and Barrow, finished off with the North loop on Whinlatter. The song, as mentioned is 'The Finding' by the CB's remixed by Featurecast. The choreography was all my own.
‘Mixed Weather’ - French Touring 2020
We sacked Scotland off at the last minute and took Big Jaffa to France for some alpine touring and refuge sleeping. Neither of us washed or cleaned our teeth for a week, apart from a quick trip to the local swimming pool where we both adorned extremely skimpy swimwear, as is bewilderingly required by French law. Photographic evidence of this however was impossible due to the public nature of our display, so that picture is sadly missing. We both fell on our arses on ice, crossed the channel during storm Ciara on the way there and Storm Ellen on the way back and we managed to book our return ferry for the wrong month; but it all turned out allright in the end.
Mount Bachelor - Libbycam
My 11 year old daughter Libby takes control of the GoPro, with some amusing results.
Scotland Shorts - Dunmuir at Twilight
Starting a route at 4pm is never a good idea. Dan and I tackle the barely covered slopes of Dunmuir near Castle Douglas. At least that's where I think it was.
Whiteside Descent - Helvellyn
Descent footage taken from Helvellyn to Thirlmere via White Side or Whiteside Bank in February 2018.
Honister 2018
January 2018 saw enough snow in Cumbria to erect an impromptu tow at Honister Slate Mine. Well done Gordy.
A German Ebike in Whinlatter
Here's another chronologically intact edit, this time of me tackling Whinlatter on my Haibike S'Duro Pro. The nipple cam gives a good idea of the speed, which by my calculations is faster than an analogue run by about 40% (the best I've managed on a regular bike is about 1:08 for the double). If you haven't tried one yet, save your scorn and give it a go.
The Fairy Glen
A sunny day in Borrowdale with a gopro and some diving masks. Contrary to how it may seem this was to the greater part a safe and well trodden swimming area. Apart from when they jump across the water fall. They won't be doing that again.
Stoneycroft Ghyll
An afternoon Ghyll Scrambling with the Godfather and my daughters.
Splitboarding Skiddaw
A rare cumbrian treat in the form of Skiddaw taken in January 2015.
Slomo Holiday Shots
All you need is a slomo capable phone. Oh yes, and a swimming pool.
The Hope Line
Nipplecam footage of the Hope Line in Gisburn Forest Yorkshire.
Baxter Does the Slab
POV footage of me and baxter on McMoab Slab, the black graded Dougie Lampkin rock climb at Kiroughtree trail centre in Scotland. Part of the 7 Stanes.
Welton MotoX Featurette
A short documenting a random day at the motocross. This was the first time we used the headcam on the bikes. It was a new (and quite technical) track so the footage isn't excellent, but you get the idea.
Baxter in his Prime
Join Baxter on another mountain biking adventure as he gets chased down the red on Whinlatter by a Giant Glory.
San Francisco
Simone won a trip with Virgin Radio to go and see Keane live in San Francisco. I'd just got the dv cam so this was my first ever film. Again it's more of a moving photo album, but worth watching for the strange busker who not only had an even stranger terrier, but also a repertoire of only one song.
Metro Maftas 2003
This film was made as part of a corporate bonding trip in 2003. I was working at Metro newspaper in London at the time and the idea had been to promote the city of Manchester as being a cosmopolitan city worthy of the distribution of the Metro Newspaper. A redundant task bearing in mind Metro was in fact already distributed in the town at the time. Never-the-less this video won the competition and gave our team members the prize of a helicopter ride from Monaco (the destination of the bonding trip) to Nice airport. Better than the bus I suppose.
